I have two kids who are generally wonderful, but neither of them can sleep well, at all. In the past seven and a half years, there have been only a handful of nights where one (or both) have not needed something in the middle of the night. The first 3 years for each child were the worst, but it seems that we are still not out of the woods. During the first two years for each, I probably only slept 3 or 4 hours without interruption on a good night. On a bad night it would be 45 minutes asleep, then 30 minutes awake. Repeat for 10 hours...
Yes, I've read basically every book ever written about getting kids to sleep. No, none of the techniques actually work for our kids.
